The First Annual Oyster Cook-off in downtown historic Apalachicola was a huge success. A fundraiser for the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department, the project grew out of the ashes of a historic Apalachicola home which burned to the ground last year.
The afternoon event, on Saturday Jan. 15th, was centered on a competition for the best local oyster dish, but the fun ran until 7pm with live music and fun activities for the kids. The cook-off grossed more than $22,000 for the volunteer fire department (while final totals and expenses were still being tallied).
