Last Thursday evening, May 27th, many island residents and visitors witnessed our first turtle of the season that swam out of our pristine waters to nest. Indeed, a daylight nesting is rare and wonderful. This beautiful and healthy Loggerhead measured 100 cm long and was estimated to be about 300 lbs. There were no signs or scars on her from injuries or oil. Yes, all is good on St. George Island!
And if you are planning a visit to St. George Island and interested in learning more about our sea turtles, please let me know. Upon request, you can accompany a volunteer on an early morning walk.
