05/07/10 - Art is Springing all over the Forgotten Coast!
May is Art month in and around Apalachicola. Most notably is the 10 day event, America’s Great Plein Air Paint-Out. From May 7-17th, nationally recognized plein air artists are capturing the allure of Florida’s Forgotten Coast with paint and canvas. From Carrabelle to Mexico Beach, artists will be painting on our beaches, across our marshes and in our beautiful historic towns during this 10 day event.
Everyday you may “Watch Art Happen” catching artists create their masterpieces. Also, daily from 11-5pm, these accomplished painters bring their new pieces to the “Wetroom Exhibit” at the historic Cotton Exchange in downtown Apalachicola.
Highlights of the event include “Art as a Historical Record,” an artist roundtable discussion at the historic Cotton Exchange, on May 14th from 2-4pm. Everyone is welcome. The very special grand Patron’s Party is May 15th from 6-10pm. This is the debut of the artists’ choice paintings, art sales and an evening of delicious tapas and refreshments. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time and can be picked up at the Wetroom. May 16th is Art in the Afternoon, the final show and sale, coupled with family entertainment and children’s art activities. This free event is located at Riverfront Park, in downtown Apalachicola from 11-3pm.
There are also several fabulous workshops scheduled throughout this event. For more information, please visit www.pleinairfl.com for ticket sales and complete event outline.
